Tony Romo’s Arrest for Operating While Intoxicated: Details and Aftermath

Tony Romo’s operating while intoxicated arrest on July 23 in Wisconsin gained attention through newly released police bodycam footage. The footage, obtained by Fox News Digital, highlights key moments of the incident.

The ex-Dallas Cowboys quarterback interacted with police, stating he was coming from a golf course. Romo claimed he consumed no alcohol and requested to contact his attorney. He asked, “Because I’m coming from a golf course, you think I’m drunk?” when the officer asked him to exit the vehicle.

Romo was detained and taken to a nearby station for field sobriety tests. The officer noted red, glassy eyes and detected an alcohol scent from Romo. Despite completing the tests, Romo declined a breath test, saying, “I’ve heard from all the lawyers don’t ever do that.” He received citations for first-offense operating while intoxicated and refusing a chemical test. Romo was released and must appear in court on Sept. 21.

Following his stop on an interstate after participating in the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship, Romo withdrew from the M&P Group Texas State Open golf tournament. Since retiring from football in 2017, Romo has worked as a CBS color commentator.

Romo’s time with the Dallas Cowboys, where he served as the starter from 2006 to 2015, was marked by several achievements. His career statistics include 34,183 passing yards, 248 touchdowns, and a 65.3% completion rate. He earned Pro Bowl selections four times and tied for third in the MVP vote in 2014.
