Tragic Boat Capsize Near Liberty Island Leaves Two Dead

On Saturday night, a boat carrying passengers capsized near Liberty Island in New York Harbor, resulting in the deaths of two people, including an infant. The incident was reported at around 10:25 p.m. by the New York Police Department (NYPD).

The boat’s capsizing led to a swift rescue operation. Twelve individuals were pulled from the water prior to police arrival. Unfortunately, an adult female and an infant were found by NYPD divers. They were urgently taken to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn, but both succumbed to their injuries. Authorities have not disclosed their identities.

Some of the other rescued passengers were hospitalized and are currently in stable condition. The cause of the capsizing remains under investigation. No arrests have been made related to this incident.

A police source mentioned the vessel involved was a 22-foot bowrider. The response to the emergency included the NYPD’s Harbor Unit, Scuba Team, Aviation Unit, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
