Tragic Shooting in Pennsylvania Leaves Multiple Dead, Including Gunman

Authorities have confirmed multiple fatalities following a shooting incident in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday night, including the suspected gunman who reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The police responded to a residence just before 5 p.m. local time after witnesses reported seeing an individual firing a weapon and then entering the house, as reported by Fox8 Live.

Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah described the situation as the most challenging he has faced in nearly 30 years in law enforcement. He informed local media that investigators are still working to understand the exact events that occurred. I want to be candid with our community. This is one of the most difficult and heartbreaking scenes our officers and investigators have ever encountered. The loss of life is devastating, and the circumstances we are working through are deeply disturbing, Lorah said, according to Fox8.

Witnesses reportedly told the police they observed the shooter run into a nearby residence. Reports indicate that the Erie SWAT team and several police officers surrounded the home, obtained a warrant, and entered the property. It’s a horrific scene, Lorah told WFXP. There was a large loss of life inside that residence and outside that residence.

Lorah confirmed to WFXP that two women were among those killed but did not specify the total number of victims. I can tell you that this is a tragic, tragic situation, Lorah added.

The Erie SWAT team and police responded to the 700 block of Perry Street, following reports of gunfire on the evening of October 9, 2026. The suspected shooter was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The city of Erie released a statement confirming the multiple deaths and assured the public that there was no ongoing threat. We understand that this news brings deep shock and sorrow to our residents, and we want to assure the public that the situation has been contained, the city stated. Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and everyone impacted by tonight’s tragedy, the statement continued.

Erie police communicated to Fox News Digital that investigators are still analyzing the crime scene, and Chief Lorah is expected to provide an update on Saturday morning. The department’s Criminal Investigations Division is continuing the investigation.
