Trump Campaigns for GOP as Musk’s PAC Invests in Key Races

President Donald Trump is actively preparing to campaign for Republicans facing tough battles in the 2026 midterm elections. The GOP is seeking to maintain its control over Congress amid increasing competition. At a recent dinner with Republican lawmakers at the White House, Trump announced plans to participate in around 35 key races, focusing on contests that could determine Republican majorities.

Trump emphasized his commitment to campaign rigorously during the final phase of the election. He has already supported GOP candidates in Texas and South Carolina and plans to extend his campaign efforts to Alaska in support of Senator Dan Sullivan, among other locations. “It’s all about 35 races,” Trump stated. “I’m going to go to every one of those 35 places.” He also mentioned his plans to intensify efforts during the last 30 days of the campaign.

Concurrently, Elon Musk’s America PAC has started significant financial involvement in crucial House and Senate races. The PAC has reported spending roughly $800,000 on independent expenditures in battleground contests, marking its initial recorded spending for the 2026 cycle. Musk has emerged as a notable Republican donor, with America PAC reporting $50 million in receipts in recent filings.

The PAC’s funds have supported Republican campaigns in Texas, Alaska, and Iowa Senate races, as well as House races, including Florida’s 25th District. The coordinated efforts of Trump’s campaign appearances and Musk-backed funding showcase a broader Republican strategy to reinforce vulnerable candidates before the November elections.

Midterm elections are traditionally viewed as a reflection of public approval for the sitting president. Historically, the president’s party tends to lose seats during these elections. Republicans currently hold a slender majority in the House and a 53-45 majority in the Senate, excluding independent Senators who caucus with Democrats.

Texas is a focal point, where incumbent Republican Ken Paxton is in a close race against Democrat James Talarico. With the race evenly matched, significant Republican resources are expected to be directed toward Texas, highlighting its critical status.

Similarly, the Maine Senate race is drawing attention as Republicans defend Senator Susan Collins’ seat against Democratic candidate Troy Jackson. Polls show a close contest, and Jackson appears slightly ahead in some surveys. Democrats argue that Trump’s low approval ratings and economic concerns might sway voters, citing the broader political climate as advantageous for them.

Former Republican Governor Chris Sununu of New Hampshire explained on CNN that Trump’s campaign strategy involves focusing on areas where his presence could be beneficial. He acknowledged logistical challenges in visiting every race location but emphasized the importance of promoting wins to support the Republican Party.
