Representative Andy Ogles from Tennessee, despite Trump’s endorsement, lost the Republican primary for the state’s newly redrawn 5th Congressional District. Another Trump-backed candidate, Amir Hassan, lost the Republican primary in Michigan’s 8th District to Thomas J. Smith. This outcome surprised many since Smith had suspended his campaign weeks prior but managed to win with 50.4 percent of the vote. Hassan, who received Trump’s endorsement in July, secured only 33.2 percent of the vote.

Phil Berger, a prominent Republican lawmaker in North Carolina, lost the nomination for the state’s 26th Senate District to Sheriff Sam Page. Georgia Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones lost the Republican gubernatorial runoff, a notable defeat for Trump in a battleground state.

Brenda Wilson, a Vigo County Council member, lost her Indiana Senate bid. Bruce Borders, an Indiana House member since 2014, also failed to secure renomination. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, an incumbent since 2015, was another Trump-endorsed candidate who lost his primary race.

Representative Randy Feenstra of Iowa suffered a defeat in the state’s gubernatorial primary, marking a significant moment in Republican competition.
