A wedding photographer, Katie Hunt, experienced an unexpected scenario after purchasing film rolls on Amazon for a wedding shoot. Hunt, who is based in Greensboro, North Carolina, normally relies on digital photography but opted to buy extra film as a precaution for a wedding scheduled on September 10.
Choosing Portra 400 35-millimeter film from a seller with a 4.5-star rating gave Hunt confidence in her purchase. However, upon arrival at the venue, she discovered gravel-like rocks inside the film canisters.
Despite the setback, Hunt managed to capture the wedding effectively without missing any moments. The film was intended as a backup, and Hunt had her own film to meet the contract requirements. Hunt, primarily a digital photographer, includes film in her packages as an additional option.
After contacting Amazon, Hunt learned that it was likely an issue involving a previous buyer, who removed the film and placed rocks before resealing the canisters neatly. Amazon’s spokesperson, Lex Evans, stated that the company has resolved the issue with Hunt and continues investigating.
Hunt received a full refund and shared images with Amazon for further examination. Though the process was challenging, Hunt noted the helpfulness and apologetic nature of the Amazon employee.
This incident, however, has discouraged Hunt from future film purchases on Amazon. She shared a viral video on TikTok showcasing her initial shock at discovering the rocks, drawing over 2.3 million views and 144,500 likes.
Hunt often records behind-the-scenes footage to showcase her working style to potential clients, enhancing her bookings by displaying her approach and personality.
