Unusual Encounter for Arkansas High School Football Player

During a practice session at Maumelle High School, an Arkansas football player experienced a startling situation when he discovered a venomous snake inside his helmet.

The player noticed something moving inside his headgear after warmups and immediately informed an assistant coach. Upon inspection, a cottonmouth snake was found behind the padding of his helmet.

Police officers used water to coax the snake, which was hesitating to leave, into a bag. Animal services quickly arrived, identified the snake as a cottonmouth, and released it in a wooded area away from the school. Cottonmouths rank as the second-most venomous snakes in the state.

Chris Davis, the director of animal services, remarked on the player’s fortunate escape from being bitten after wearing the helmet for nearly an hour. “It was unreal,” Davis stated, emphasizing the shock of the situation.

The incident prompted the head coach to remind the team about the importance of checking their equipment for any hidden threats before use.

The Maumelle Animal Shelter addressed the event on social media, advising the public to inspect items like helmets and gear that sit outside. “Snakes and critters can find their way into dark spaces,” the shelter warned, noting that a quick check could prevent dangerous encounters.
