Vincent Pastore: Remembering a Beloved Actor

Years after “The Sopranos” ended, its cast gathered for a sorrowful occasion, bidding farewell to Vincent Pastore. On Thursday in New York, Pastore’s family and friends paid their respects. His co-star, Steven Van Zandt, served as a pallbearer, carrying the casket, which was draped with an American flag honoring Pastore’s Navy service.

During the emotional service, Pastore’s daughter described him as a “giving person.” She shared, “He was a man who lived out his dreams, but he knew how lucky he was.” This sentiment was reported by Page Six.

“I think that’s why he tried to share as much of it with as many people as possible,” she added. “Whether that was a big tip, always in cash, or by shaking hands with every cop on every corner.”

Maureen Van Zandt attended the funeral, and her husband, Steven, mentioned that he stayed in frequent contact with Pastore. “We just happened to call him two days ago. The day before he died, we luckily just happened to call him,” he explained.

Stephen Villano, Pastore’s “right-hand man,” also spoke to the media, highlighting that Pastore was different from the roles he played. “He said, ‘I’m an actor. I play a character,’” Villano noted. Pastore was known for his generosity and community spirit, supporting veterans, police, and charities alike. “He cared about his neighbors, he cared about charities, he cared about fundraisers,” Villano said.

He added, “Pastore supported St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and the NYPD, backing widows, orphans, and their Christmas parties regularly.”

Pastore passed away on August 1 in The Bronx, as confirmed by his manager, Robert Attermann. “Vinny passed away either yesterday or today at home,” Attermann shared.

Attermann reflected on representing Pastore for over 30 years, long before “The Sopranos” elevated Pastore to fame. “To the world, he will always be remembered as the unforgettable ‘Big Pussy,’ but to those of us who knew him, he was so much more,” Attermann expressed.

Beyond “The Sopranos,” Pastore appeared in TV shows like “Blue Bloods,” “Law & Order,” and “General Hospital.” His film credits included “Goodfellas,” “A Bronx Tale,” and “Carlito’s Way.”

“He loved being an actor,” Attermann said. “He was passionate and encouraging towards young actors, offering guidance and support.”

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee. His professional legacy remains as one enriched with memorable roles and a spirit of generosity.
