A World War II-era aircraft crashed during an attempted landing at Heritage Field Airport in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, trapping the pilot inside the overturned plane. Around 7:17 p.m., Limerick Township police arrived at the scene where the small aircraft was found upside down on the runway.
The pilot, the sole occupant of the plane, was trapped in his parachute. An airport employee and police officers successfully freed the pilot and extracted him from the aircraft.

Ken Shuler, the Limerick Township Fire Chief, informed FOX29 Philadelphia that by the time of their arrival, the pilot was already being pulled out of the aircraft, indicating that the fire department’s extrication services were not needed.
The pilot, though conscious and standing, had visible cuts. He was treated on-site by Freedom Valley Medical Rescue and later transported to Reading Trauma Center. The pilot was reportedly alert and speaking after the accident, though further details about his condition have yet to be released.
This accident involved a single-engine plane departing from Pottstown and heading to Quakertown. According to Limerick Township officials, the flight had lasted approximately nine minutes.

The crash led to a fuel leak, requiring firefighters to remain at the site to manage the spill and prevent potential fires. Heritage Field Airport, previously known as Pottstown Municipal Airport, had to close Wednesday night to allow crews to address the spill and remove the plane.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash, and the Federal Aviation Administration’s Eastern Region Operations Center was notified about the incident. Investigations by aviation authorities are ongoing.
