Wynonna Judd Opens Up About Family Struggles and New Album

4 minutes ago 0

Wynonna Judd, a prominent figure in country music, has chosen to share personal aspects of her life that may prove difficult for her family. She revealed to People magazine that she and her sister Ashley Judd are not communicating currently, as they are focusing on different paths in life.

“We’re taking a break, which all families can relate to,” Wynonna commented. “She’s doing her thing, and I’m doing mine.” This personal update was shared amidst discussions about her upcoming album “The Hard Truth”, set to release on October 2, which delves into her complex relationship with her late mother Naomi Judd and explores family secrets, anger, and the journey to forgiveness.

“I feel like this is the most honest and vulnerable I’ve ever been,” Wynonna shared, reflecting on the album’s creation. “There are moments when I question what I’ve done, but I’ve reached a point where sharing my story feels right.” Wynonna collaborated with her husband, Cactus Moser, on this project, who played a significant role in encouraging her candidness.

“I knew it was going to be cathartic,” Moser said.

Wynonna’s career began with the mother-daughter duo The Judds, known for harmonious and roots-driven country music throughout the 1980s. They achieved significant success, including 20 Top 10 country hits, with 14 reaching No. 1, and earned numerous awards. Yet, while the duo flourished musically, their personal relationship experienced both deep love and notable turmoil.

“There was a tremendous amount of love there; a lot of drama but a lot of love as well. It was definitely a paradox,” Wynonna noted.

The intense relationship dynamic partly stemmed from Naomi’s severe depression, an illness Wynonna kept secret until her mother’s death by suicide in April 2022 at age 76.

“My mother had an illness, she had a disease. I kept the secret, and I was devastated by that,” Wynonna added.

The project, according to Wynonna, wasn’t driven by her mother’s passing but by her own need to tell her story. Even if Naomi were alive, Wynonna believes she would have persisted in sharing her experience.

“It’s my story, and it’s my feelings,” she explained. She acknowledges how exposing these feelings might have been painful for her mother, yet also understands Naomi’s awareness of her honesty.

“I think it would be very painful for her. Very painful. But I also know that she knows me, that I’m so honest and so up-front,” Wynonna stated.

Wynonna Judd’s album “The Hard Truth” will be available starting October 2, offering fans a closer look at her life’s candid revelations.
