The 126th annual commencement ceremony for the New Trier Township High School Class of 2026 was held on Sunday, May 31 at 3 p.m. at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates. True to tradition, the 902 graduates were dressed formally in black and white attire or wearing white gowns. The long-stemmed red roses held by the graduates provided a vivid contrast to the variety of white or ivory dresses.
During the ceremony, Campbell Bach from Wilmette had the honor of carrying the American flag. “I get to represent our country,” Bach commented on the privilege of his role. Peter Tragos, who has been the superintendent of New Trier Township High School District 203 since July 2025, addressed the graduates from the podium. “This commencement may feel like an end, but I can assure you, it’s just the beginning of many great things to come,” he stated.
The commencement speaker, Blake O’Donnell from Kenilworth, shared his thoughts with the audience, saying, “While we are leaving here with diplomas, we are also taking with us the stamina of a class that has already proven that it can go the distance.” The alumni speaker was Shams Charania, a distinguished member of the Class of 2012 who now reports on professional basketball.
Two graduating students, Cooper Cohen and Lily Dale, spoke about their class service project with North Chicago Community Partners. These students, both from Glencoe, presented their insights from the podium.
Among the graduates were Morgan Zibell of Winnetka, Rachel Elli of Wilmette, Lexi Circ of Kenilworth, and Mia Ascione of Wilmette. These seniors were seen wearing white dresses and holding their long-stemmed red roses. All four expressed appreciation for the educational opportunities provided by New Trier Township High School. “I’m sad but I’m also really excited for the next chapter,” Ascione remarked, adding that she felt well-equipped for college. Lexi Circ commented on the quality of education, saying, “It was very good.” Morgan Zibell reflected on the significance of being a Trevian, “If anyone asked where you went and you said, ‘New Trier,’ it’s like an honor. It means everything.”
