Israeli Strikes in Gaza Result in Nine Palestinian Deaths

3 weeks ago 0

Overnight Israeli airstrikes in Gaza resulted in the deaths of at least nine Palestinians, as reported by local hospitals. This occurred while much of the global attention was on the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

According to Shifa Hospital, the casualties occurred in at least four separate strikes in Gaza City. The deceased included two women and two children. Video footage of one attack revealed extensive damage to what appeared to be a residential apartment building, including a large hole on an upper floor, damaged interior walls, and blood-stained belongings scattered both inside the building and on the street outside.

A funeral was held on Thursday in Gaza City for the Palestinians killed in these strikes. Walid Shbeir, the uncle of one of the victims, expressed grief, stating, “They say the war has stopped, but the war has not stopped. Every night there is killing, and we have martyrs. Every night, in the morning, in the evening, and at night, this killing is continuous for us.” Family members wept over the bodies of their loved ones at the hospital.

The Israeli military provided no immediate comment on the latest strikes. This follows previous actions where Israel targeted high-level Hamas leaders, including a recent strike that killed a top military figure. Since the ceasefire attempt in October, aimed at ending a two-year conflict between Israel and Hamas, violence has continued with frequent Israeli strikes and shootings near military zones.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which is considered reliable by the United Nations and experts, over 936 people have been killed since the ceasefire, though it does not specify the numbers of civilian versus militant deaths. Meanwhile, Hamas militants have attacked troops, with Israel claiming its strikes respond to truce violations or threats. Four Israeli soldiers have died in Gaza since the ceasefire.

The offensive began in response to a Hamas attack in October 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages taken. This ongoing conflict underscores the fragile nature of the ceasefire and the continued tensions in the region.
