An evening flight from British Columbia to Toronto was canceled after a toddler refused to fasten their seat belt. This incident occurred on a Porter Airlines flight, confirmed to Fox News Digital.
Flight 444 had been scheduled to depart from Victoria International Airport at 10:30 p.m. and was taxiing when a flight attendant noticed the issue. The child was standing on their seat and would not buckle the seat belt. Attempts by the overseeing adult and crew failed to secure the child.
The airline stated, “The aircraft could not take off in this unsafe condition, so the crew elected to return to the terminal and have the passengers disembark.”
The cancellation was influenced by the airport’s takeoff curfew of 12:30 a.m.
Removal of the passengers and luggage, along with completing required paperwork, led to the flight’s cancellation. Other passengers had to remain overnight.
Porter Airlines apologized, expressing regret for the disruption caused to the passengers. They were rebooked and eventually departed on a Friday flight.
The airline requires safety seats or restraint devices for children under two. The exact age of the child involved remains unknown.
