LeBron James surprised Nelly Korda with a personalized pair of golf shoes for the U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club. Being ranked World No. 1, Korda gave these shoes a trial, but they soon seemed not to fit her standards.
Starting on the back nine, Korda’s first round showed some fluctuations. She made par on the challenging par-4 10th hole and earned a birdie on the 11th. However, she then faced consecutive bogeys. After six holes and being 1-over par, Korda decided to swap the custom shoes for her regular Nike pair.
Amy Rodgers from Golf Channel reported that Korda found the shoes a bit too loose, affecting her swing. Korda’s trainer retrieved her usual shoes and switched them on the 16th hole.
Before the event, Korda posted on Instagram showing appreciation to LeBron James for the gifting. James replied, wishing her success in the major championship.
Korda continued her round, making par on the 16th hole after the shoe change, ending the opening round 1-over par.
LeBron has recently gained interest in golf. He frequently appears in golf videos online, mentions it in NBA pressers, and shares clips of himself playing.
Korda entered Riviera as a strong contender for her first U.S. Women’s Open win. She has already won three championships in 2026 and finished second in three out of seven recent starts.
