On Tuesday, ‘The View’ co-host Whoopi Goldberg addressed the audience regarding the blame placed on President Donald Trump following the New York Knicks’ loss. The Knicks played their first NBA Finals game since 1999, hosting the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden after winning two prior games. Trump, a native New Yorker and fan of the Knicks, attended the game invited by team owner James Dolan.
The Spurs secured a 115-111 victory, leading to frustrations among Knicks fans. Some fans attributed the team’s loss to Trump’s presence. Goldberg reacted by stating, “A lot of Knicks fans are not happy with you-know-who right now.” She firmly dismissed the notion, stressing that the Knicks’ performance, not Trump, was responsible for the defeat.
Goldberg highlighted the impact of heightened security due to Trump’s visit, describing inconvenience across the city. “He came into town, messed up everything,” she said, noting restrictions affecting daily activities. Expressing her stance, Goldberg insisted, “They were not playing great ball. That was on us.” Encouraging personal accountability, Goldberg conveyed that “this man does not have that kind of power” over the game’s outcome.
Co-host Sunny Hostin expressed a differing view, attributing “bad juju” and “bad karma” to Trump’s presence, suggesting an existing positive atmosphere in New York disrupted by the visit. Despite Goldberg’s assertion, Hostin criticized the cost of securing the stadium and the negative crowd reaction towards Trump.
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin shared her perspective, cautioning against attendance by any president during winning streaks due to subsequent blame for losses. She acknowledged Trump’s loyal fan status despite the team’s past struggles.
Goldberg also defended the rights of Trump and Mayor Zohran Mamdani to attend the game, stating, “Anybody who’s a Knicks fan should be there.” She emphasized the right of fanhood, asserting, “There’s nothing either one of them can do to change what’s happening in this city for this team.”
