1 week ago 0

The Shockoe Institute in Richmond, Virginia, opened earlier this spring with a mission to broaden understanding of the lasting effects of enslavement. The institute seeks to find ways to enhance civic life in the present day.

Amna Nawaz explores this initiative for the Art in Action series, which is part of CANVAS coverage. This series examines the relationship between art and democracy, illustrating how they influence each other.

Amna Nawaz holds the position of co-anchor and co-managing editor for PBS News Hour. Anne Azzi Davenport, the Senior Producer of CANVAS at PBS News Hour, also contributes to this series.
