Trump-Backed Barry Moore Wins Alabama GOP Senate Runoff

1 week ago 0

President Donald Trump played a significant role in the Republican Senate runoff election in Alabama, as his endorsed candidate, Rep. Barry Moore, clinched the GOP nomination. Moore triumphed over his competitor, former Navy SEAL sniper Jared Hudson, in Tuesday’s runoff, solidifying his position in Alabama’s predominantly Republican landscape, according to the Associated Press.

In the initial Republican primary, neither Moore nor Hudson surpassed the 50% threshold, leading both to the decisive runoff.

Barry Moore, previously seen saluting at the 2025 Republican National Convention, is contesting for the U.S. Senate position set for 2026. His endorsement from high-profile figures such as Vice President JD Vance and Senate Majority Leader Sen. John Thune further cements his lead in the race. Moore aims to fill the shoes of Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who has opted to run for governor rather than retain his Senate seat.

Moore’s career includes founding a waste hauling business and serving as a state lawmaker before entering the U.S. House in 2020. He was an early supporter of Trump during the latter’s 2015 presidential bid.

Jared Hudson, by contrast, pursued a distinct path as a political outsider, overcoming state Attorney General Steve Marshall to reach the runoff. Hudson has an extensive background as a combat veteran, sheriff’s deputy, firefighter, and small business owner. He also heads a nonprofit focused on training law enforcement against human traffickers.

Endorsements for Hudson included then-Sen. Markwayne Mullin, now Secretary of Homeland Security under Trump, Sen. Tim Sheehy, and the National Association for Gun Rights PAC.

Moore’s November opponent will be either Dakarai Larriett, a petcare business owner, or Everett Wess, an attorney and former judge.
