A Mexican man, Arnoldo Jimenez, has been returned to the United States after being on the run for over a decade, according to the FBI. He was captured in his native country last year for allegedly killing his wife on their wedding night in Illinois.
Jimenez was apprehended on January 30, 2025, by Mexican authorities working with U.S. law enforcement agencies in Monterrey, Mexico. Before his capture, Jimenez was on the FBI’s Most Wanted list and ranked as the fourth-most wanted fugitive in the U.S.
“Thursday marks an important milestone for [FBI Chicago] — our personnel have successfully brought back FBI Most Wanted fugitive Arnoldo Jimenez from Mexico,” the FBI stated on social media. “No matter how much time has passed or where a criminal may be in the world, the FBI will never stop in our pursuit of justice.”
Authorities accuse Jimenez of killing Estrella Carrera, 26, shortly after their marriage. Her body was discovered in the bathtub of her apartment in Burbank, Illinois, on May 13, 2012, less than 48 hours after the wedding.
Jimenez faces first-degree murder charges; authorities issued a state warrant for his arrest on May 15, 2012. A federal warrant followed two days later, charging him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. The motive for the killing remains undisclosed, and authorities have not announced a date for his court appearance.
