Michael Weatherly Returns to ‘NCIS’ as Tony DiNozzo

Michael Weatherly is set to make his return as Tony DiNozzo on “NCIS” a decade after leaving the show. On July 1, CBS officially announced that the actor, 57, would be rejoining the series for its 24th season. This was confirmed in a press release stating Weatherly would be part of a “season-long arc” where Tony is reunited with the ‘NCIS’ team.

Weatherly, who was part of the main cast for 13 seasons before his departure in 2016, shared the news on the show’s Instagram account. “I’ll see you in the fall,” he posted, alongside a caption reading, “We’ve missed this one… welcome back, old friend!”

Previously, Weatherly returned to the series in season 21 for the episode “The Stories We Leave Behind,” paying tribute to David McCallum and his character, Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, after McCallum’s passing in September 2023. Additionally, Weatherly appeared in the Paramount+ spinoff “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” with co-star Cote de Pablo.

The spinoff, however, was canceled after a single season, leaving fans eager for a reunion of Tony and Ziva on the original series. On social media, fans expressed hopes for de Pablo’s return as well, asking, “You better be bringing @cotedepablo with you!”

When the cancellation of “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” was announced in December, Weatherly and de Pablo released a joint statement through Variety. They expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reprise their roles and thanked the cast, crew, and fans worldwide who supported the spinoff.

In season 24 of “NCIS,” besides Weatherly, viewers can expect to see regular cast members Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, and Gary Cole. The show will air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and also stream on Paramount+.
