Eric Dane Reveals Personal Insights in Posthumous Memoir

1 hour ago 0

Eric Dane, known for his role on “Grey’s Anatomy,” disclosed insights into his life and career through his memoir, “My Book of Days.” Here, we explore key revelations about his experiences on the show and his personal struggles.

The Departure from “Grey’s Anatomy”

Dane mentioned that financial factors primarily influenced his exit from “Grey’s Anatomy.” He played Dr. Mark Sloan, also known as McSteamy. Despite facing challenges with prescription painkiller addiction, series creator Shonda Rhimes offered support.

“Over the course of the show, I go to rehab five times,” Dane wrote. Rising production costs made his role expendable. Rhimes directly informed him that his character would not return after season nine.

Nearing the Role of McDreamy

Dane nearly played McDreamy, a role ultimately given to Patrick Dempsey. Initially dismissing the offer to play Mark Sloan, he was convinced by his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, to audition for the part.

On-Set Incident with Josh Duhamel

An altercation occurred between Dane and actor Josh Duhamel during a “Las Vegas” episode shoot. Despite Dane’s warnings to Duhamel about a neck injury, tensions rose when Duhamel repeatedly grabbed Dane’s tie in a scene. Dane later admitted he overreacted.

Conflict with Billy Corgan

Dane had a property dispute with Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. A tree from Corgan’s property crashed into Dane’s home, missing his family by a narrow margin. Initially urged to trim the tree, Corgan refused, prompting legal action from Dane. Eventually, Corgan settled, agreeing to cover the trimming costs.

Maintaining McSteamy Physique

To maintain his McSteamy appearance, Dane used testosterone and growth hormones, monitored by a licensed physician. This regimen led to an optimal physique, although a subsequent neck injury reignited his addiction issues.

Messages to His Daughters

In heartfelt messages, Dane expressed his regrets about not being present for future milestones in his daughters’ lives due to his battle with ALS. He also advised them against pursuing careers in Hollywood.

Reckless Early Years

Dane recounted a perilous night involving drugs and firearms with friends Balthazar Getty and Hunter. His addiction once led to a close call with the law, and eventually, friends intervened to help him seek treatment.

Initial Misdiagnosis Before ALS

Before his ALS diagnosis, Dane was initially believed to have a treatable neurological disorder. However, treatments had no effect, leading to the ALS diagnosis in November 2024.
