New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani received accolades for skillfully dodging questions during a podcast appearance with host Jillian Superstar. On her podcast, 360 with Jillian, Superstar asked the mayor if he would consider running for president.
Mamdani, born in Uganda, responded by saying it was not something he needed to worry about. He expressed satisfaction with his current role, highlighting the uniqueness of working in New York City. He stated, “You wake up in New York City, you go to sleep in New York City. The whole day is in New York City. What more could you want?”
Superstar praised Mamdani by saying, “You’re good. You can teach a master class on dodging questions. That was fantastic.”
In an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl, Mamdani was asked about altering the Constitution to allow non-U.S.-born citizens to run for president. He maintained that the “Constitution looks good the way it is.”
Mamdani has seen significant political success recently. Several socialist candidates he endorsed won key New York primary elections. This includes congressional candidates Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Darializa Avila Chevalier. Each of these candidates is likely to win against Republican opponents in the general election.
Further fueling political speculation, Mamdani has had conversations with Vice President Kamala Harris. Confirming a call with Harris, he said they have maintained contact over the past few months. This interaction hints at efforts by Harris to strengthen ties with progressive parts of the Democratic Party.
