Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, is facing a misdemeanor charge. Authorities report that he hit a parked vehicle in Napa County, California, on a recent Friday and then left the scene. He continued driving until his car became disabled.
Incident Details
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office stated the incident occurred in Yountville, over an hour north of San Francisco. A witness observed a brown convertible hitting an unattended parked vehicle before proceeding north. Deputies later discovered the damaged convertible partially obstructing a road. They identified Paul Pelosi, aged 86, as the driver.
During their inquiry, Pelosi allegedly admitted to deputies that he realized he had struck something but was unaware of what it was. He kept driving until his vehicle was no longer operational, investigators said.
Investigation and Legal Actions
The investigation revealed alcohol was not involved. Testing with a Preliminary Alcohol Screening Device showed zero alcohol levels, eliminating the possibility of a Driving Under the Influence charge. Investigators held Pelosi accountable for the collision. He was not arrested at the scene, a typical response for this nature of misdemeanor. Deputies intend to refer the case to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for evaluation and possible legal action.
The sheriff’s office will also send a driver re-evaluation referral to the California DMV, a standard procedure for elderly drivers.
Past Legal Issues
This event transpired over two years after Pelosi’s guilty plea for misdemeanor drunken driving causing injury from a May 2022 collision in Napa County. His sentence included three years probation, five days in jail largely offset by custody credits and a work program, a three-month DUI education course, installation of an ignition interlock device for one year, and fines and restitution to the injured driver. Investigators stated DUI was not a factor in the recent crash.
Pelosi Attack Aftermath
Paul Pelosi has remained prominent following an October 2022 hammer attack in the San Francisco home he shares with Nancy Pelosi. David DePape, who sought Nancy Pelosi before assaulting Paul Pelosi with a hammer, received a life sentence on state charges in October 2024 after a prior 30-year federal prison sentence. This attack resulted in a skull fracture and other serious injuries for Paul Pelosi.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi has long represented San Francisco’s 11th congressional district. Brittany Miller, a Fox News Digital breaking news writer and former Independent reporter, graduated from Syracuse University in 2023.
