Latino voters played a pivotal role in several Democratic wins during the recent midterm elections. Notably, majority-Hispanic areas that had strongly supported President Donald Trump in 2024 changed direction. These counties, where Latinos make up most of the voting-age population, showed a significant 28-point movement towards Democratic Senate candidates. This trend was observed in several deep-red states where Democrats flipped Senate seats.
Among the ten counties with the largest shift towards the Democrats, nine are located in Texas and one in Kansas. Texas counties with a majority-Hispanic population demonstrated a profound shift, moving 34 points left. The change was even more prominent in certain South Texas counties along the border, such as Starr County, which has a 96 percent Latino population and swung 72 points to the left.
In Kansas, Seward County experienced one of the most remarkable transformations among majority-Hispanic counties nationwide, with a 52-point shift in favor of Democrats.
