Allegation of Sexual Assault Against Maine Senate Candidate

Jenny Racicot accused Graham Platner, a candidate in the Maine Senate race, of sexual assault in a Politico interview. She elaborated on the incident in an extended interview with Jake Tapper on CNN.

Ms. Racicot claimed that Mr. Platner assaulted her in 2021 at her home. The encounter, which she described as rape, included a violent struggle. She recounted a sewing cabinet being knocked over, resulting in a needle piercing her leg.

This is something that I tried for many years to forget, Ms. Racicot stated.

Mr. Platner denied all allegations on social media, describing them as categorically false. The two had met on a dating app in 2019. Ms. Racicot initially found him intelligent and charming, but he often self-medicated with alcohol.

According to Ms. Racicot, Mr. Platner texted her one night in 2021, saying he’d visit her home. She replied, No, don’t come over, and assumed he received the message. Half an hour later, she heard a noise and found him inside her unlocked house.

He then allegedly jumped on top of her while she lay on the couch, indicating sexual intentions, Ms. Racicot stated.
