Veteran pass rusher Von Miller joined the Washington Commanders on a one-year, free-agent contract for the 2025 NFL season. He had another offer from the Seattle Seahawks, who ultimately won the Super Bowl that year.
While the Seahawks celebrated football’s highest achievement, the Commanders ended their season with disappointment, failing to make the playoffs after securing only five regular-season victories.
“Obviously, I picked the wrong team on that one,” Miller admitted during an appearance on the “89” podcast with Steve Smith and James Palmer.
Miller believed he selected a team with strong Super Bowl potential. The year before, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led the Commanders to the NFC Championship. During that period, the Seahawks missed the playoffs altogether.
On the podcast, Miller elaborated on his decision to join Washington. “For me, with the Washington Commanders, I just felt like Jayden Daniels was poised for another great season,” Miller mentioned, according to ProFootballTalk. “His rookie season went all the way to the NFC Championship, and last year, he got hit with injuries, not just at the quarterback position, but all over the place. And those are some of the things that you just can’t calculate on teams.”
Now 37 years old, Miller enters the 2026 NFL season as an unsigned free agent, considering his options for the future.
