New Beginnings for Abby Zawadzki

Abby Zawadzki from St. Charles North High School took decisive steps to shape her future in softball. Unsure at the end of the high school season, she has now secured a spot with Ohio State, reconnecting with former teammate Sara Tarr.

Adjustments in Recruitment

Zawadzki initially committed to Ole Miss. However, she reopened her recruiting last September when NCAA restrictions changed team roster limits. The new limit reduced the number of players, causing Ole Miss to withdraw several offers, including hers.

Support Network

Zawadzki credits her support system, including her coach Lauren McNulty, for her successful recruitment. McNulty’s connections and advice on staying visible through camps and social media proved invaluable.

The Connection with Ohio State

Ohio State coach Kirin Kumar showed interest in Zawadzki after recruiting other local talents like Madi Reeves. Kumar’s move from Miami of Ohio attracted players like Sara Tarr, who performed impressively during her freshman year at Ohio State.

Reflecting on Her High School Career

Zawadzki thrived in her senior year, posting a 12-0 record with a 2.07 ERA and hitting .420 with 11 home runs. Her achievements earned her the title of Beacon-News/Courier-News Softball Player of the Year.
