Trump Recommends Lindsey Graham’s Sister for Senate Seat

President Donald Trump is advocating for an unexpected choice to fill the vacancy left by Sen. Lindsey Graham in the Senate. Trump has suggested that South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appoint Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, to serve the remainder of his term.

Trump expressed his support through a post on Truth Social, stating, “I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina. This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!”

The connection between Graham and his sister is significant, as he adopted and raised her after their parents passed away.

“Lindsey Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, would be a fantastic pick to serve out the remainder of the Senate term,” Sen. Tim Scott added.

Senator Tim Scott and other key Republicans also back the idea of appointing Graham Nordone. He stated on social media that there is no one better equipped to understand Graham’s commitment to family, state, and country.

The scramble to fill Graham’s seat has intensified, with McMaster set to announce his decision soon. While McMaster has remained tight-lipped about his preferences, multiple Republican figures, including Scott, have put forward alternative names like former Rep. Trey Gowdy and former Sen. Jim DeMint.

Scott, who is closely involved as the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, indicated that McMaster is being urged to appoint a placeholder who would not seek a full six-year Senate term. This approach would allow the voters to decide later during a special election.

The race for the GOP nomination for the August 11 special election is already underway. Representatives Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman have shown interest. Meanwhile, Rep. Joe Wilson has decided to remain in the House, and other congressional members have yet to disclose their plans.
