Podcast Hosts Criticize Homeschooling, Spark Debate

4 weeks ago 0

On Tuesday, co-hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan from the “I’ve Had It” podcast expressed their strong disapproval of homeschooling, labeling it as “weird” and “the worst” idea. Their opinions followed a caller’s critique during the show of individuals homeschooling who might not be suited for parenting.

Sullivan swiftly echoed the caller’s sentiments, expressing concerns about those involved in Bible studies homeschooling their children. She opined that homeschooling, regardless of the parent’s expertise, from a nuclear physicist to others, leads to strange socialization dynamics.

“For me, keeping children around all day is not desirable,” Sullivan noted, emphasizing that she would go to great lengths to ensure kids attend school outside the home.

“I think a lot of people do it because it’s simply easier, which is concerning,” she remarked.

Welch argued that parents homeschooling their children often impose their beliefs and scripts on them, claiming such parents lack critical thinking skills.

Welch didn’t hold back, calling homeschooling part of America’s “crazy Christian” problem and likening it to child abuse. She opined that imposing a singular religious belief on young children is wrong, suggesting it prematurely limits their religious choices.

In contrast, Corey DeAngelis, an education policy advocate, responded robustly to the podcast hosts’ comments. DeAngelis, speaking to Fox News Digital, defended homeschooling as a natural and historical method of education. He criticized the reliance on government schools which he associated with various social ills and indoctrination.

“Sending kids to government schools is the real ‘weird’ stance,” DeAngelis contended.

He emphasized that homeschooling has historical precedence and nurtures parental authority. DeAngelis countered the view expressed by Welch and Sullivan, suggesting their perspectives reflected disdain for family involvement rather than the realities of homeschooling.
