Vice President JD Vance Welcomes Fourth Child

Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha, have announced the arrival of their fourth child, Alec Neel Vance, born on Sunday. The couple expressed their joy in a statement shared on X, saying, “We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”

The Vances thanked the staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where Usha delivered the baby and is currently recovering. The family resides near Washington, D.C.

JD and Usha Vance, married since 2014, have three other children. Ewan is 9 years old, Vivek is 6, and Mirabel is 4. This occasion marks the first time in modern U.S. history that a sitting vice president’s family has welcomed a child. The last instance was in 1870, when Vice President Schuyler Colfax Jr. and his wife had their son during Ulysses S. Grant’s presidency.

Vance discussed his family in his book, “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.” He revealed that he had been encouraging his wife to consider more children for years. However, her decision changed after the death of their friend Charlie Kirk. When the Vances flew Kirk’s body to Arizona for burial, Erika Kirk, Charlie’s widow, shared her regret about not having more children with her late husband, which influenced the Vances deeply.

Usha Vance shared in an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning” that Erika Kirk’s words were “very powerful” and “certainly very moving to both of us.” Usha admitted that while already considering the possibility, Erika’s comments came during ongoing family discussions about having more children.
