Dodgers Celebrate 2025 World Series Win at White House Visit

In Washington, the Dodgers made their way to the White House on Thursday, following an invitation from President Trump to celebrate their achievement as 2025 World Series champions. President Trump acknowledged the team’s remarkable performance, highlighting their exceptional talent and character. He expressed admiration, saying, “This is really a special team. It’s special winners. They’re champions, and just unbelievable.” Despite some confusion regarding players’ roles, Trump conveyed his expectation for another visit from the champions.

During the event, Dodgers chairman Mark Walter presented Trump with a personalized World Series ring and a Dodgers jersey, emphasizing the significance of winning consecutive championships. Walter stated, “Winning back-to-back championships is an extraordinary accomplishment, and it reflects the talent, determination, and character of everyone in the organization. Thank you for welcoming us today, Mr. President. We’re proud of that team and what it has achieved, and we hope to be back here again next year.”

The ceremony took place in the Rose Garden, where manager Dave Roberts delivered a speech on behalf of the team. He praised the team’s achievement of back-to-back World Series titles, saying, “We did something that hasn’t been done in over 30 years, going back-to-back World Series champions, and we are going for a three-peat. We’re in the middle of this season right now, the grind. So thank you. The only thing I’ll have to say is, I hope when you watch our guys play, you can be proud and say these guys do things the right way.”

During the ceremony, Trump expressed confidence in Miguel Rojas, expecting him to hit a home run in Game 7 because “he’s a winner.” Trump then shook Rojas’ hand. The visit marked the second time the back-to-back champions visited the White House in successive years. Scheduling challenges arose due to the team’s limited availability, as their visit in April aligned with their series against the Nationals, but they managed to arrange for their presence during their East Coast trip.

The decision to visit the White House sparked debate among Dodgers fans, given Trump’s policies affecting some of the team’s supporters. However, Roberts has repeatedly downplayed any political implications, stating his focus remains on baseball. Notably, Mookie Betts and Kiké Hernández chose not to join the visit, with Betts opting to be with family and Hernández citing a rehab assignment conflict. Hernández had previously expressed support for fans during ICE raids in Los Angeles, while Betts stressed his decision was not politically motivated.

Pitcher Edgardo Henriquez also missed the visit for undisclosed reasons. In response to the ICE raids, the Dodgers donated over $1 million to local organizations aiding affected individuals. Roberts expressed his aspiration for the team to receive annual invitations to the White House, linking such visits to championship victories and emphasizing, “I’m a baseball coach. That’s what I do.”

The visit followed reports by Bloomberg regarding investigations into potential financial improprieties involving two insurance companies controlled by Walter and Guggenheim Partners. Federal prosecutors are conducting these inquiries, yet no charges have been filed. Representatives from Walter’s affiliated companies have confirmed cooperation with the investigation.
