A West Virginia state delegate, David Elliott Pritt, is facing substantial pressure to resign after being charged with the enticement of a minor. Pritt, a 36-year-old married father of four, allegedly engaged in sexual acts with a 15-year-old student at Oak Hill High School, where he worked as an English teacher.
According to a federal criminal complaint, Pritt began communicating with the girl via Roblox and Snapchat in 2024 when she was in eighth grade. By the end of the school year, Pritt reportedly expressed feelings of love for her. In summer 2025, he allegedly sent her explicit videos and photos and requested similar content in return.
The complaint states Pritt initiated a physical relationship with the girl in late 2025, inviting her to his classroom to engage in sexual acts. Their latest encounter reportedly took place earlier this year, and they maintained contact on Snapchat until recently. Pritt allegedly instructed the girl to remain silent about their interactions, warning of severe consequences.
Following these revelations, West Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Roger Hanshaw removed Pritt from all legislative roles and called for his resignation. Hanshaw emphasized the gravity of the allegations, stating that elected officials are held to a higher standard and should not exploit their positions of trust.
Republican Delegate Josh Holstein also urged Pritt to step down, citing the severe nature of the federal charges and the need for trustworthy representation for the people of his district.
The Fayette County Schools acknowledged Pritt’s arrest and are cooperating with the investigation, as stated in a report by WCHS. School officials reiterated their commitment to the safety and well-being of students and staff.
West Virginia Superintendent of Schools Michele Blatt has suspended Pritt’s teaching certificate, highlighting the importance of public trust in educators.
Pritt remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday. Having been elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 2022, Pritt is also an Air Force veteran. Discussions within the state’s legislature are ongoing about potentially convening a special session concerning Pritt’s status if he does not resign voluntarily.
