The editorial published on July 18, titled “The rise and fall of a corporate fad,” discussed corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. It used our research to suggest that these initiatives negatively affected both politics and markets. We need to clarify our research intentions and findings.
The primary aim of our research was to explore the political dynamics that led to the growth and subsequent decline of corporate commitments to DEI. We did not analyze whether these programs harmed political or market landscapes. Our focus was on understanding the political forces influencing the trajectory of DEI within corporations.
DEI programs have been widely implemented across various industries, aiming to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment. These initiatives often involve efforts to increase diversity in hiring and promotion, ensure equitable treatment of employees, and create inclusive workplace cultures.
While debates continue regarding the efficacy and impact of DEI programs in corporate settings, it is crucial to distinguish between analyzing their political implications and making claims about their direct effects on markets or politics.
