Dr. Fauci’s Diary Entries Reveal Media Relationships During COVID Crisis

Dr. Anthony Fauci exposed his connections with media figures in diary entries made public by Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul. These diaries provide insights into Fauci’s experience as the former White House COVID advisor during the pandemic in 2020. Conversations with President Donald Trump, governors, world leaders, and media appearances are among the highlighted interactions.

Fauci’s diaries reveal friendships forming with members of the liberal media covering the health crisis. CNN anchor Jake Tapper is frequently mentioned, appearing 41 times in Fauci’s notes. Tapper communicated with Fauci through text, often mocking rival news hosts and discussing contentious appearances.

In April 2020, Tapper checked in on Fauci after a show appearance sparked backlash from Trump supporters. Fauci wrote, “Jake wanted to make sure the interview did not cause me any problems.” By July, Fauci noted his growing friendship, having dinner at Tapper’s home and describing them as a “terrific couple.”

Fauci also assisted Tapper with interview questions for CNN’s “State of the Union” with pediatrician Brett Giroir. Tapper later expressed his frustration after questioning Giroir, waking Fauci up to discuss his anger at a tweet from Trump. Despite this, Fauci continued socializing with Tapper, inviting him to dinner at his own home in October.

CNN anchor Dana Bash also showed support during a contentious House Select Subcommittee hearing in April 2021. Fauci recorded Bash’s praise and mention of colleague Wolf Blitzer’s supportive comment. Bash and Tapper would later moderate the CNN Presidential Primary Debate between Biden and Trump in 2024.

Andrea Mitchell called Fauci on July 4, 2020, to apologize for not featuring him on her show, citing being unaware of limitations imposed by the White House. She reassured Fauci of her shock over assumed hesitance to appear.

NBC’s Chuck Todd consulted Fauci post-interview, discussing the strategy of publicly addressing slander. Fauci sought Todd’s advice on managing negative attention.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos praised Fauci’s handling of a mean tweet from Trump, expressing admiration in a text message following an interview on “Good Morning America.”

Fauci prepped CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jonathan LaPook for a TV appearance, exchanging emails over the weekend about Universal Flu and HIV vaccines.

Representatives from NBC, ABC, and CBS News did not respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment. A CNN spokesperson declined to comment.
