A tragic incident unfolded last week in Grand Haven Township, Michigan, involving the deaths of a family of eight. Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, along with his wife Amanda, 39, and their six children, ages 5 to 15, were found deceased in their home. The bodies were discovered by authorities responding to a fire at the residence. Autopsies confirmed that all family members died from gunshot wounds, and that Kristopher took his own life, as stated by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Captain Jacob Sparks during a Monday news briefing.
Authorities revealed that the fire was intentionally set in various parts of the home following the shootings. Despite this, investigators continue to examine the origins and details of the incident. Sparks informed the public that the investigation remains active as officials strive to understand the circumstances leading to this heartbreaking event.
Kristopher Karolkiewicz had served as a vice president of sales and marketing at the American Heart Association (AHA) until earlier this month. He managed a team focused on CPR and first aid training and products. Amanda, known affectionately as Mandy, worked as a substitute teacher at Peach Plains Elementary School. Kristin Perkowski, superintendent of Grand Haven Area Public Schools, praised Mandy for her dedication and compassion in service to the students and staff, affirming she will be deeply missed by the community.
The couple met in 2008 while working together at a beverage company. They married in August 2009 and welcomed their first son in 2011. Over the years, their family grew with the birth of two more sons and the adoption of two daughters, as well as another biological son. Mandy often shared her Christian faith and family joy in a personal blog and later through TikTok videos.
A GoFundMe page has been launched by Mandy’s extended family to assist with expenses and establish a scholarship in memory of the Karolkiewicz children. Becky and Steve Lawwill, Mandy’s aunt and uncle, expressed their profound grief over the loss of their loved ones, describing the tragedy as beyond words. Remaining funds from the campaign will create a scholarship to honor the children and support future generations.
