Early discussions included Emmet Sheehan as part of the trade, but he was seen in the Dodgers’ clubhouse after their game against the Boston Red Sox, and manager Dave Roberts expects him to start Sunday.

If Ryan, Hope, and Smith are indeed the deal’s components, the Tigers will receive promising talent. Ryan is almost ready for the major leagues, although he is currently on the Triple-A injured list due to a hamstring injury. The Dodgers managed the trade without disrupting their major-league lineup or surrendering their top prospects Josue De Paula and Christian Zazueta.

The Dodgers’ pitching veteran, Alex Vesia, expressed disbelief upon hearing the trade news, which he learned from his mother via text message. He shared, “I think you’ve got a new teammate,” emphasizing the surprise element of the addition.

Skubal, 29, stands out as the premier left-hander and enhances a rotation spearheaded by Yoshinobu Yamamoto. As postseason insurance, Skubal might be pivotal should other key players be unavailable. Yamamoto admitted being surprised by the acquisition’s fruition, having heard only rumors prior.
