Vincent Pastore, Known for ‘The Sopranos,’ Dies at 80

Vincent Pastore, recognized for his roles as mobsters and tough characters, has died at the age of 80. He was best known for portraying Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on the TV series The Sopranos.

Bob McGowan, the actor’s longtime manager since his days on The Sopranos, confirmed the news to The Associated Press. McGowan learned of Pastore’s passing from Vincent Curatola, another cast member from the show. Pastore was discovered in his City Island home in New York after a few days of not being in contact. McGowan had been trying to reach Pastore regarding a potential job opportunity.

“He was the most loyal client and he always gave to charity,” McGowan remarked. “He was the kind of guy who would help anybody, which is rare in my business.”

Pastore’s film career began in the 1980s. He played roles in notable films like Goodfellas and Awakenings in 1990. His portrayal of Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero in The Sopranos remains iconic. The character, a friend of Tony Soprano, becomes an informant for the FBI.

Born in the Bronx, Vincent Pastore spent his childhood in suburban New Rochelle, New York. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and later pursued higher education at Pace University, as noted in his IMDb biography.

He is survived by his daughter, Renee Pastore.
