The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced an expanding salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeños, now affecting 27 states. These jalapeños were served at various restaurants, including Chipotle and Qdoba.
California-based Coast Citrus Distributors supplied these jalapeños, which originated from Mexico. So far, 36 people have been hospitalized, though there have been no fatalities reported. In response, Chipotle removed jalapeños from its menu, stating they acted “out of an abundance of caution.” Qdoba also withdrew jalapeños, declaring they “proactively removed” them from all their establishments.
The CDC confirms that neither Chipotle nor Qdoba currently present a risk, as the tainted jalapeños have been eliminated from their offerings. However, the investigation into this outbreak continues.
