A tragic incident occurred on Friday in Nonthaburi province, just north of Bangkok, Thailand. According to a Reuters report, a student opened fire at a local school. The police have noted an unconfirmed number of fatalities.

The event unfolded in the Bang Kruai district, causing significant distress in the community. Reuters has identified the suspected shooter as a student. At this time, authorities have not disclosed detailed information regarding the victims, the suspect, or a possible motive, as the investigation is still in progress.

This attack is part of a troubling trend of school shootings this year. Earlier in February, a high school in British Columbia, Canada, faced a deadly shooting.

Newsweek has attempted to contact the U.S. State Department on Thursday night for further comments. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
