On Friday, Boston Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy shared news about the team’s new acquisition. Adley Rutschman, recently acquired from the Baltimore Orioles, will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester starting Saturday. This follows his recovery from discomfort in his left wrist.
Rutschman plans to catch five innings in his first game appearance since July 18. The Woo Sox eagerly promoted his debut on social media, sharing the plan for him to have at least two at-bats.
Boston is not heavily relying on Rutschman’s immediate return to the lineup. The team has been performing well, scoring an average of six runs per game over an 18-3 turn since July 17. However, current catchers Connor Wong and Jake Rogers have shown limited offensive strength, reflected in their below-average OPS+.
Rutschman has shown improvement at the plate in between injury stints this season. His current statistics reflect a .251 batting average, a .331 on-base percentage, a .433 slugging percentage, and an OPS+ of 115.
Adding Rutschman to the lineup provides both offensive and defensive enhancements, a beneficial move for the team.
