Flanagan’s campaign was marked by intense competition. Her life experiences, from utilizing government food assistance to advancing into the middle class, motivated her campaign promises. She vowed to defend programs like Medicaid and childcare services.
Craig, despite having a fundraising advantage and support from leading Democrats such as Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Tammy Baldwin, faced challenges from Flanagan’s messages regarding Craig’s prior backing of legislation perceived as unfavorable. Flanagan also criticized Craig for her connection to immigration enforcement policies.
Flanagan’s platform called for significant reform. She proposed dismantling federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement and expanding Medicare coverage universally. This approach aimed to distinguish her vision for change.
In the Republican primary, former sports broadcaster Michele Tafoya emerged victorious.
