During the Formula 1 summer break, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team has announced a significant leadership change. Cadillac has decided to part ways with team boss Graeme Lowdon, replacing him with Marcin Budkowski, a seasoned F1 veteran and former Alpine executive director.
According to Dan Towriss, CEO of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, Budkowski’s appointment represents a crucial step in the team’s evolution. “Our goal has always been to build a next-generation team capable of competing at the very front of Formula 1,” he stated.
Graeme Lowdon was instrumental in forming the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, guiding it through the initial race weekends of its debut season. Although no specific reason was provided for Lowdon’s departure, Towriss expressed gratitude for Lowdon’s leadership, acknowledging his significant contributions in establishing the team’s foundation.
Cadillac has faced challenges this season, currently sitting at the bottom of the standings. While the team’s performance issues were anticipated, they have been compounded by reliability concerns. Drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas have each experienced four race-ending incidents, including failures at the Austrian and Hungarian Grands Prix.
Despite these setbacks, the team sees potential for improvement. A P10 finish in the Constructors’ standings remains attainable with just two points needed to surpass Aston Martin.
Aston Martin, which recently took a one-point lead over Cadillac at the Monaco Grand Prix, appears to be gaining momentum with upgrades introduced before the summer break. Cadillac will aim to counter this when Formula 1 resumes at the Dutch Grand Prix on August 23.
