Rep. Rashida Tlaib Faces Criticism for Supporting Socialist Candidates Against Jewish Democrats

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan, attracts criticism from Florida’s only Jewish Republican in Congress. She participates in efforts to unseat two fellow House Democrats. Tlaib joins a rally in Fort Lauderdale, organized by left-wing groups, to support three congressional candidates. Among them are two socialists aiming to unseat Reps. Jared Moskowitz and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, both Democrats from Florida. A flier on Instagram announces the rally.

Rep. Randy Fine, a Republican from Florida, voices his concerns to Fox News Digital. Fine highlights that Tlaib primarily targets Jewish Democrats. He suggests that her appearance may not resonate well in Florida, and hopes Florida Democrats recognize the potential risks associated with the Democratic Party’s current direction.

Tlaib plays a significant role on the far left, supporting candidates linked to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). These candidates gain ground against established Democrats nationwide. However, critics accuse DSA affiliates of antisemitic stances and ties to groups like Hamas. Tlaib, the first Palestinian American woman in Congress, has heard cross-party criticism for her stances on Israel and Jewish issues, though she disputes antisemitism allegations.

Fine labels Tlaib a ‘vocal supporter of Hamas,’ expressing concern that the far-left movement endangers American Jews. He argues that the Democratic Party’s trajectory is both concerning and hazardous, and singles out Tlaib as emblematic of this surge, which he perceives as anti-American.

DSA-affiliated candidates have unseated House Democrats in various states including New York, Colorado, and Michigan, where socialist Abdul El-Sayed defeated Rep. Haley Stevens for a Senate nomination. Tlaib actively campaigned alongside El-Sayed and other DSA candidates nationwide.

The rally, titled ‘Chomp the Oligarchy,’ features sponsorship from groups like Gen Z For Change and the Florida Youth Justice Coalition. Neither Moskowitz’s nor Wasserman Schultz’s campaigns commented on Tlaib’s attendance. Tlaib’s campaign similarly refrained from commenting on Fine’s statements.

Previously, Tlaib and other Democrats accused Fine of exhibiting anti-Muslim racism. Moskowitz, representing Florida’s 23rd District, seeks re-election in the 25th District, which underwent redistricting to potentially favor Republicans. Wasserman Schultz campaigns in the newly drawn 20th District, sparking controversy over its impact on historically Black representation.
