The Los Angeles Lakers are once again changing ownership. Just 14 months after Mark Walter acquired the team with a record-setting valuation of $10 billion, he has decided to sell to Bob Iger, former Disney CEO, and Joshua Kushner. The sale is reported to value the team at over $12 billion, as disclosed by a source who prefers to remain anonymous due to the confidentiality of the deal.

Joshua Kushner, who already holds a minority stake in the Miami Heat, is known as the younger brother of Jared Kushner. In a joint statement, Iger and Kushner expressed their excitement at the opportunity. “As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world,” they said. They praised the leadership and vision of Jerry and Jeanie Buss, committing to build on their legacy, aiming for competitive excellence, and serving both the team and Los Angeles.

Mark Walter, who has been the majority owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, reflected on his time with the Lakers. He described the experience as one of the greatest honors of his life and an extraordinary investment. “What I will carry with me is the community, the fans, and a city that treats this team as a family,” Walter conveyed in his statement. He expressed gratitude to Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff, acknowledging their warm welcome. He remains optimistic about the team’s future and believes that the best days for the Lakers are still ahead.
