Arizona Cardinals Face Challenges with Injured Rookies

1 hour ago 0

The Arizona Cardinals have faced significant setbacks early in their rebuilding phase. With a new head coach and a promising lineup of draft picks, the team had high hopes. However, the reconstruction of their roster has encountered unexpected obstacles as their top four rookies suffered injuries.

Injuries Among Top Draft Picks

Arizona’s first-round draft pick, Jeremiyah Love, faces an uncertain future with an ankle injury. Initially described as a mild high ankle sprain by Dr. David Chao, the expectation is that Love might return for Week 1 of the regular season. However, his availability remains uncertain.

The situation worsens with the team’s second-round pick, guard Chase Bisontis, who will miss the entire season. Bisontis sustained an MCL injury requiring surgery during a preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Head Coach Mike LaFleur confirmed Bisontis’s placement on the Injured Reserve list, automatically ruling him out for the year. LaFleur expressed sympathy for the player and acknowledged the team’s loss.

Further Complications for the Team

Quarterback Carson Beck made an impressive preseason debut in the Hall of Fame game, completing 15 of 19 passes with a touchdown. Unfortunately, he has since been sidelined with a rib injury. Beck’s current status remains uncertain, as the exact nature of his injury has not been disclosed. His absence from practice raises concerns about his participation in upcoming games.

Kaleb Proctor, the team’s fourth-round pick, has also been placed on the preseason IR following a knee injury sustained during Organized Team Activities. Proctor’s torn meniscus required surgery, and he is expected to miss the entire season.

Looking Ahead

Despite the challenges, there is a possibility that both Jeremiyah Love and Carson Beck will return at some point. However, the Cardinals face a daunting task managing these injuries, as they are the only team in the league with injuries impacting more than half of their draft picks. The unpredictable nature of these setbacks raises questions about the team’s future performance.
