Former NFL quarterback Drew Brees has officially been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Brees’ career achievements include being second all-time in passing yards and touchdowns, securing a Super Bowl XLIV victory and MVP award, and attending 13 Pro Bowls.
While Brees’ induction was anticipated, debate continues for others, including Eli Manning. Manning, a fellow quarterback, led the New York Giants to two Super Bowl victories in his 16-year NFL career. Despite his achievements, Manning has not yet received enough votes for Hall of Fame induction and did not make the list of 15 modern-era finalists for two consecutive voting periods.
Brees supports Manning’s candidacy. He stated, “It’s always funny to hear how people want to evaluate the quarterback position. I mean, look, there’s so much that goes into it. It’s body of work, it’s consistency, certainly championships factor into it.”
Brees considers Manning’s tenure leading the Giants “impressive,” noting his success during a competitive era with quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers, and Aaron Rodgers. Brees emphasized the epic battles and mutual growth among these players.
The argument against Manning includes his even 117-117 regular-season record and lack of first-team All-Pro or MVP votes. Additionally, Manning led the league in interceptions on three occasions and had a 60.3% pass completion rate. However, his career totals, playoff achievements, durability, and 210 consecutive regular-season games for the Giants contribute to his strong resume.
Brees believes Manning will eventually be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Besides football, Brees is involved in business ventures, partnering with Walk-on’s Sports Bistreaux. This expanding sports bar franchise, originating in Louisiana, boasts over 80 locations. The establishment aims to offer a variety of sports viewings and is aided by its partnership with DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS.
Brees explained, “We pride ourselves on Louisiana-inspired cuisine. It’s unbelievable food…thanks to our partnership with DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS.”
Through DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS, over 300,000 bars and restaurants can access local, national, college, and pro games for fans. The service accommodates various sports, including football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and soccer.
Brees appreciates how sports bars foster community and camaraderie among fans, noting the friendly atmosphere when wearing team jerseys.
