PGA Tour’s FedExCup Playoffs Approach BMW Championship with Top Contenders

2 hours ago 0

The 2026 FedExCup Playoffs have narrowed the field to 50 golfers as the second round makes its way to Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, for the BMW Championship. Following this event, the top 30 players in the FedExCup standings will move on to East Lake for the upcoming TOUR Championship.

Bellerive Country Club is a long par-70 course (7,448 yards) featuring bentgrass greens. The club has hosted several major championships, including the 2018 PGA Championship, where Brooks Koepka emerged victorious. With rain expected to soften the course conditions, a competition focused on birdies is likely. Players who excel in driving and iron play stand the best chance of winning.

Scottie Scheffler, currently ranked World No. 1, secured his second tournament win of the year at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He dominated the event, winning by eight strokes and was the only player to score double digits under par. While Scheffler is favored for the BMW and possibly the TOUR Championship, betting odds for him sit at +300 or lower, making it challenging to wager on him.

Chris Gotterup

Chris Gotterup’s notable performances in the John Deere Classic and other tournaments highlight his consistency on Midwest courses with bentgrass greens. Gotterup ranks second in the field for Strokes Gained (SG): Off-the-Tee over the last 24 rounds, making Bellerive a suitable course for his skills.

Hideki Matsuyama

Matsuyama has demonstrated strong performances with six T14-or-better finishes recently. He leads in birdie-or-better rate over the last 24 rounds. While his short-game ranks lower, his ball-striking remains impressive, enhancing his chances for success at Bellerive.

Collin Morikawa

Although Bellerive favors longer drivers, Morikawa’s accuracy in ball-striking makes him a contender. Leading the TOUR in Strokes Gained: Approach, Morikawa’s skills are complemented by his experience on courses with challenging greens.

Michael Thorbjornsen

Thorbjornsen captured attention with his win at the Rocket Classic. His recent achievements at driver-heavy courses bode well for Bellerive’s layout. His comprehensive skill set across numerous areas makes him a notable candidate in this event.

For the BMW Championship ‘One-and-Done’ pick, Chris Gotterup stands out, with Geoff Clark remaining a prominent figure in sports betting analysis.
