The Detroit Lions started the 2025 season aiming for a Super Bowl win. They ended with a 9-8 record, just missing the playoffs, and not quite meeting the high hopes set for them as the 2023-2024 NFC North champions.
Despite the missed opportunity, head coach Dan Campbell remains optimistic about their chances with the current team lineup. In a conversation with Eric Woodyard from ESPN, Campbell expressed confidence that the team still has potential.
Our window is not closed. It’s not closed. That was the whole reason why we did this. We fell short last year. But needed to get in [the playoffs], and now it’s about the matchups, where you’re playing and who you’re playing,Campbell emphasized.
He cautioned against focusing too heavily on acquiring a single star player. We want to be able to do that every year, and sometimes, I’m just saying is what happens is, you want to go all-in for one player, well how do you know that one player doesn’t get hurt?
Campbell pointed out the risks involved.
Campbell emphasized the importance of building a cohesive unit. Or how do you know the three players behind him don’t get hurt and now you’ve got no depth? Whereas, let’s just get a unit together that we feel like can compete every year and then it’s about in that moment, we’re making those plays and finding a way to win that game,
he explained.
Looking ahead, the Lions will start their 2026 season facing the New Orleans Saints on September 13.
