Zelenskyy Cautions Against Wartime Elections Amid Russian Conflict

KYIV, Ukraine — President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that conducting an election in Ukraine during active conflict with Russia would be detrimental, likely leading to division among Ukrainians. This statement marked Zelenskyy’s first public remarks on the issue following former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov’s call for a wartime election last week. Fedorov’s unexpected dismissal sparked protests, although supporters rejected his election proposal.

While detailing their disagreement, he stated, “I had and continue to have a positive attitude towards Mykhailo. We have been through much together, but he is heading in the wrong direction.” Zelenskyy offered Fedorov multiple roles in government, which he declined.
