Mick Jagger’s Advice to Hollywood: Focus on Entertainment, Not Politics

1 hour ago 0

Mick Jagger’s views on the role of entertainers suggest a focus on making people forget their troubles, contrasting with figures like Bruce Springsteen, who he feels lecture audiences. Jagger emphasizes that his job is to help people escape their worries through his performances.

In a separate discussion, director Jon Turteltaub shared insights about the ‘National Treasure’ film series. During a live recording of the ‘National Treasure Hunt’ podcast in Philadelphia, Turteltaub confirmed that ‘National Treasure 3’ is progressing with a finished script approved by Disney.

The original ‘National Treasure’ movie premiered in 2004, followed by its sequel in 2007. Both films were directed by Turteltaub. He spoke about the delay between the second and third films, attributing it partially to the nation’s political climate. He mentioned a conversation with Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy as an example of the divided views on patriotism linked to the movie.

“He, like others, were surprised that Democrats made that movie because Democrats can’t be patriots,” Turteltaub said, as reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Turteltaub indicated that the third film might include elements of modern politics. He noted the necessity of addressing political themes while trying not to alienate viewers. “We have to be very careful, but I don’t feel we are allowed to ignore it,” Turteltaub stated.

He joked about the unpredictable nature of Hollywood production, referring to how sudden events could impact the film’s development. Christian Toto, a film critic, commented on the role of politics in older franchises. Toto expressed concerns about injecting political themes into a series focused on U.S. history, suggesting that the franchise should remain apolitical.

Toto noted, “It’s actually a sad sign of the times — a franchise about U.S. history is now seen as problematic or challenging.” He believes maintaining a delicate balance between addressing current political issues and telling an engaging story is important for the film’s success.
