Illegal Immigrant Faces Serious Charges in Virginia After Jail Release

A tragic incident has unfolded involving an illegal immigrant from Venezuela accused of murder in California. A father lost his life in a sanctuary city, just a day after a judge allowed the suspect to walk free on personal recognizance. This situation has prompted federal authorities to urge California Governor Gavin Newsom to hand over the suspect for deportation.

Meanwhile, in a related case, Isaac Melendez-Carranza, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, has been charged with distributing fentanyl near a Virginia high school. Caught at the Texas border in 2016, border authorities released him on bond, and he spent years under a final deportation order set in 2024.

On August 20, law enforcement arrested Melendez-Carranza for dealing drugs within 1,000 feet of a school. He is held at Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) highlighted ICE’s involvement, placing a detainer for his transfer to federal immigration authorities upon resolving his charges.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office connected Melendez-Carranza to student overdoses at Park View High School. Sheriff Mike Chapman expressed deep concern about drugs harming students. During their investigation, authorities discovered 100 fentanyl pills and $1,000 in his residence.

Several students experienced nonfatal overdoses at the high school, leading to hospital evaluations. School officials remain uncertain about any direct connection between these overdose incidents and whether controlled substances were involved.

The Sheriff’s office anticipates more arrests, although a definite timeline isn’t available. Federal immigration authorities plan to take custody of Melendez-Carranza following his local legal proceedings.

The ongoing efforts by DHS and ICE aim to target individuals accused or convicted of crimes within the U.S. for deportation, as emphasized during the previous federal administration.
